Abstract:Introduction: In surgery, we know different types of operative interventions, and with each of them there is a possibility of postoperative complications. In the prevention of complications, the registered nurse, who is bearer of tasks and tasks in nursing, plays a key role. In her work, she must be independent and have appropriate knowledge, work experience, psychophysical and personal qualities and a responsible attitude towards the patient. Methods: In this thesis, a descriptive method is used. It includes a literature review, for which we employed the PRISMA diagram. Various databases were used to search for data, with the analysis including the use of keywords as well as inclusion and exclusion criteria. The gathered literature was used to answer the research questions posed. Results: Nurses in the perioperative environment play a key role in ensuring safe and quality patient care. As managers, they coordinate the tasks in the operating teams, ensure the smooth operation of the operation and improve the quality of care. In the preoperative period, the nurse recognizes the patient's specific needs and risks, which enables adequate preparation for the operation. Identifying risks in optimizing patient preparation is key to a successful perioperative process, which is especially important to minimize complications and improve treatment outcomes. Discussion: The role of the registered nurse in preventing post-operative complications starts in the perioperative period, is continuous and involves the nurse at different levels of healthcare delivery. Knowledge of all areas of work is key to reducing post-operative complications. In addition, effective communication between nurses and doctors is crucial for the successful functioning of the healthcare team, as it involves more than just the transfer of information, but also ensures coordination, monitoring of the patient's condition and rapid responses in emergencies.
