Abstract:Delo v nujni medicinski pomoči zahteva stalno pripravljenost, hitre odločitve in sposobnosti delovanja v nepredvidljivih razmerah.

Abstract:Work in emergency medical services requires constant readiness, quick decision-making, and the ability to act in unpredictable situations. Night shifts add an additional burden, as they affect sleep quality, increase fatigue, and cause stress, which can have consequences both for the health of employees and for patient safety. In this context, the thesis examined the impact of night work on paramedics and the changes brought by the integration into the dispatcher center. The empirical research, conducted through a survey of paramedics from three anonymized health centers, showed that night work most often results in exhaustion, reduced concentration, and difficulties in decision-making. Paramedics cope with stress mainly by resting, engaging in physical activity, and socializing, while professional help is rarely sought. After the inclusion in the dispatcher center, stress levels decreased for most respondents; however, they highlighted new burdens such as increased responsibility, time pressure, and insufficient information. Based on the findings, the thesis suggests strengthening support mechanisms, improving opportunities for recovery and access to professional assistance, as well as better shift planning. The results provide useful guidelines for designing measures that could, in the long run, contribute to greater satisfaction and better health of paramedics.
