Methodological framework as a decision-support tool in addressing NFTs and blockchain projects in the tourism industry
Raffaella Folgieri, Sergej Gričar, Tea Baldigara, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are an emerging application of blockchain technology, with the potential to transform various industries, including tourism. Despite conceptual discussions that have highlighted opportunities and challenges associated with using NFTs—such as in digital souvenirs, ticketing systems, loyalty programmes, and conservation initiatives—there is a critical gap in the literature consisting of the lack of a structured methodological framework to empirically evaluate the impact of real-world NFT implementations. This study addresses this gap by proposing a conceptual model and methodological framework designed to assess NFT projects in the tourism sector. The framework integrates diverse data collection methods, advanced analytical techniques (including econometric analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning), and a technological workbench for tracking key performance indicators (KPIs). To demonstrate its applicability, the framework is applied to the Dalmatia NFT project, an exploratory application in cultural tourism. The considered example highlights the potential of NFTs to enhance tourism experiences while addressing challenges such as scalability, sustainability, and user engagement. This study concludes with insights into the framework’s practical implications for stakeholders and outlines future research directions for empirical validation. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, this study aims to provide a robust foundation for effectively integrating NFTs into the tourism industry.

An Ex Ante approach to the resilience and recovery plan’s impacts on sustainable tourism in Algarve and Alentejo
Bernardo Valente, Erika Džajić Uršič, 2025, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The European Union has been trying to adjust its tourism policy in response to the challenges posed by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The funding of the EU Cohesion Policy has been one of the primary mechanisms guaranteeing that all regions can be prepared to receive tourists and cope with the sustainability challenges the pandemic has raised. The recovery and resilience plan (PRR) is the most recent instrument created to help economic growth in most European Union countries. The implementation of the PRR in Algarve and Alentejo has been fundamental to understanding the Portuguese tourism sector, as these regions are heavily dependent on tourism sector revenue and were hit hard by the consecutive lockdowns in recent years. Therefore, this policy, in brief, critically assesses the tourism-related projects that received funding from the PRR until November 2023 (ex ante) and their potential to guarantee long-term tourism sustainability in Algarve and Alentejo. Despite not achieving the expected efficiency results due to delays in project execution and low investment, the PRR is still a positive upgrade for tourism-related policy in Algarve and Alentejo.

Causes and challenges of the Danube region countries in attracting and retaining talents as one of the key competitive advantages of the future
Janez Kolar, 2024, samostojni znanstveni sestavek ali poglavje v monografski publikaciji

Opis: Today's world resonates with increasing oscillation patterns, which are detectable in different timeframes and phase shifts. These oscillations can be detected in shorter or longer periods. Despite fears that computers would replace humans, there is a growing shortage of competent ICT experts. As technologies like High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Quantum Technologies (QT) advance rapidly, this shortage worsens, raising entry barriers. This chapter examines the colourful Danube region countries' challenges in attracting and retaining ICT talent. It compares countries' understanding of creativity, entrepreneurship, new emerging technologies, and competitiveness alongside their capacities to attract and retain skilled ICT professionals.
