Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Kronična ledvična bolezen je dolgotrajno stanje, pri katerem ledvice počasi izgubljajo svojo sposobnost odstranjevanja odpadnih elementov ter sposobnost filtracije krvi.

Title:LIFESTYLE OF A PATIENT WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DESEASE
Abstract:Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition where the kidneys gradually lose their ability to remove waste products and filter the blood. To maintain kidney health for as long as possible, patients need to adhere to a specific diet with various restrictions. Regular medication, blood pressure monitoring, consistent physical activity within the patient's capabilities, and routine medical check-ups are crucial. The purpose of the study is to examine the complications faced by chronic kidney disease patients, assess the significance of a healthy lifestyle for them, explore their dietary habits, and identify limitations encountered in physical activity. Methods: A qualitative study is based on the descriptive method of empirical research. For the purposes of the empirical work, primary and secondary data were collected and analyzed. We designed a template for a semi-structured interview as the data collection instrument, involving six individuals diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, with a purposive sample. Criteria considered for selecting participants included age (over 30 years) and the duration of diagnosed chronic kidney disease (more than one year). Data collection took place in October 2023, and prior to the study, we obtained voluntary participation consent. Results: In the interview, six participants took part, comprising five females and one male. None of the participants were familiar with the true significance of chronic kidney disease, as revealed in the interview. However, they exhibited similar symptoms related to the mentioned condition. The interviewees did not mention any severe complications but they say that lifestyle is very important in chronic kidney disease. Discussion: Through research, we find that adaptation in diet, physical activity and general lifestyle is extremely important, as this is key in managing chronic kidney disease. One of the findings is that limiting salt, controlling protein intake and a balanced diet have a significant effect on reducing the load on the kidneys and inhibiting the progression of the disease. We also recognized the importance of regular physical activity in maintaining a suitable body weight and improving blood pressure, which contributes to the better health of patients with chronic kidney disease. Through the research, we also found that the interviewees had no complications, with the exception of one who mentioned disturbed urination. Regarding the restrictions, we mainly notice that they have changed their lifestyle from a less active to a more active one, as well as being careful with their diet. One of the interviewees mentions that she is deprived of time due to dialysis.
