Title:The Role of Effective Leadership on the Employees of Small and Medium Enterprises in Ghana

Abstract:Purpose: Leadership style is one of the most crucial human resource-related outcomes and one of the most studied topics in management. The study assessed the role of effective leadership on employee performance on the small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the Cape Coast Metropolis in Ghana. Study design/methodology/approach: A descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study constituted 480 SME’s but 205 participants responded to the questionnaire. Microsoft Excel was used to analyze and present the data in tables and chart for easy interpretation. Findings: The findings indicated that, transformational, transactional, democratic, laissez-faire and autocratic are some of the leadership styles exhibited by the SME operators in the Metropolis. It was revealed that, the factors influencing employee performance were planning and controlling ability, role model and self-confidence, standards of performance for group members, rewarding achievement and influence by subordinates. Finally, it was disclosed that, leadership styles exhibited by the SME operators positively influences employees’ performance. Originality/value: This study is useful to the SMEs operators and the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) in Ghana to create policies on the leadership styles that will increase employee engagement and performance which will improve the economy growth in the country.

Title:Vloga učinkovitega vodenja pri zaposlenih v malih in srednje velikih podjetjih v Gani
Abstract:Namen:Slog vodenja je eden najpomembnejših izidov, povezanih s človeškimi viri, in hkrati eno najbolj preučenih področij v managementu. Raziskava je ocenjevala vlogo učinkovitega vodenja pri zaposlenih v malih in srednje velikih podjetjih (MSP) v mestu Cape Coast v Gani. Zasnova/metodologijapristopštudije:Za raziskavo je bil uporabljen deskriptivni raziskovalni načrt, pri čemer je na vprašalnik odgovorilo 205 udeležencev. Za analizo in predstavitev podatkov v tabelah za lažjo interpretacijo je bil uporabljen programStatistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Ugotovitve:Rezultati raziskave kažejo, da med slogi vodenja, ki jih izkazujejo lastniki MSP v mestu, prevladujejo transformacijski, transakcijski, demokratični, laissez-faire in avtoritarni slog. Nadalje so sposobnost načrtovanja in nadzora, zgled, samozavest, starost, nagrajevanje dosežkov ter vpliv podrejenih dejavniki, ki motivirajo vedenje zaposlenih na delovnem mestu. Nazadnje je raziskava pokazala, da so koristi, ki jih imajo zaposleni od učinkovitega vodenja, naslednje: všeč jim je bilo njihovo delo, redno so prejemali povratne informacije o uspešnosti, verjeli so, da je ocenjevanje njihovega dela pravično, imeli so letni nabor standardov uspešnosti, počutili so se varne in imeli tudi priložnosti za napredovanje na svojem področju dela. Izvirnost/vrednost:Raziskava je koristna za lastnike MSP ter za Nacionalni odbor za mala podjetja (NBSSI) v Gani, saj lahko oblikujejo politike o slogih vodenja, ki bodo povečali zavzetost in motivacijo zaposlenih ter s tem prispevali k gospodarski rasti države.
