Abstract:Uvod: Mišične poškodbe spodnjih okončin predstavljajo eno najpogostejših težav v nogometu.

Abstract:Introduction: Muscle injuries of the lower limbs represent one of the most common problems in football. Among the most important preventive measures were stretching exercises, which, from a theoretical perspective, were widely regarded as essential for injury prevention. However, their application in practice was often irregular and not guided by professionals. The purpose of this thesis was to examine how the frequency of stretching before and after training affected the occurrence of muscle injuries in the lower limbs among football players competing in the 2nd and 3rd Slovenian football leagues and within the Intermunicipal Football Associations. The focus was on identifying the most frequent muscle injuries, evaluating the effectiveness of stretching methods, and analyzing the role of physiotherapists in raising awareness and educating players about correct stretching as a preventive approach. Methods: The research was based on quantitative methodology. Data was collected using a closed-ended questionnaire. A total of 102 active football players participated in the study. The collected data were statistically analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics. Results: Players most frequently stretched after training and less frequently before it. Most injuries occurred in the hamstring muscles (Hypothesis 1). More frequent performance of stretching exercises was associated with a lower incidence of muscle injuries in football players (Hypothesis 2). It was found that players more often performed static stretching after training, while dynamic stretching was rarely used before training (Hypothesis 3). The role of physiotherapists in integrating into the players' training program was limited, which confirmed that Hypothesis 4 was not confirmed, due to financial constraints typical of lower-league clubs. Discussion: The findings highlighted the need for greater professional involvement of physiotherapists even in lower-tier football. Proper stretching techniques and targeted education could significantly contribute to reducing the risk of muscle injuries.
