Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Etične dileme zdravstvenih dispečerjev pri izvajanju telefonsko podprtega oživljanja so predvsem hitro odločanje s pomanjkljivimi informacijami, konflikt med pravico do življenja in pravico do dostojanstvene smrti ter tudi prepoznavanje trenutka, ko oživljanje postane nesmiselno. Pri tem imajo pomembno vlogo komunikacijske veščine, odgovornost in uporaba protokolov s strani zdravstvenih dispečerjev. Podatki so bili obdelani in prikazani s programom Microsoft Excel. Ključne komunikacijske veščine so umirjen ton in pomiritev klicatelja (44 %), jasnost navodil (26 %) in aktivno poslušanje (20 %). Potrebni so dodatna usposabljanja, razvoj jasnejših protokolov in sistemska psihološka podpora.

Title:THE ROLE AND ETHICAL DILEMMA OF THE MEDICAL DISPATCHER IN PERFORMING TELEPHONE-ASSISTED RESUSCITATION
Abstract:Introduction: The ethical dilemmas faced by medical dispatchers when performing telephone-assisted resuscitation are primarily rapid decision-making with inadequate information, the conflict between the right to life and the right to a dignified death, and also recognizing the moment when resuscitation becomes pointless. In this context, the dispatchers’ communication skills, responsibility, and the use of protocols play an important role. The purpose of the research is to examine the ethical dilemmas encountered by emergency medical dispatchers in the implementation of telephone-assisted resuscitation. Methods: The study was based on a quantitative approach and a descriptive research method. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions. A purposive sample was applied. The survey was conducted in the middle of the year 2025 via the online application 1ka. Data were processed and presented using Microsoft Excel. Results: The survey results showed that the vast majority of emergency medical dispatchers have direct experience with telephone-assisted resuscitation (97%). Respondents emphasized that their experiences vary depending on the abilities of bystanders and the circumstances of the event. The key communication skill is a calm tone and reassurance of the caller (44%), followed by clarity of instructions (26%) and active listening (20%). The vast majority of emergency medical dispatchers (87%) expressed the need for additional training in communication skills. Ethical dilemmas most frequently arise when making decisions with incomplete information (94%), in cases of relatives opposing resuscitation (20%), and in assessing when resuscitation is no longer meaningful (45%). Protocols are helpful but not always sufficient, as noted by a total of 62% of respondents. Discussion: The findings confirm that dispatchers are crucial actors in recognizing cardiac arrest and ensuring the effectiveness of telephone-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Their communication skills influence both the reduction of panic and improved cooperation of laypersons, while they also frequently face ethically demanding decisions where protocols do not always provide clear solutions. Additional training, the development of clearer protocols, and systemic psychological support are needed.
