Abstract:Sindrom policističnih jajčnikov (PCOS) je najpogostejše obolenje endokrinih žlez v rodnem obdobju ženske. Podatki v raziskavi so bili pridobljeni s tehniko intervjuvanja petih medicinskih sester, izbranih v namenskem vzorcu. V vseh fazah raziskave smo upoštevali etična načela raziskovanja. Vse podatke smo tematsko analizirali in jih poslali intervjuvankam v pregled. Intervjuvanke so podale ustrezne odgovore.

Title:The Nurses Role in the Management of a Patient with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Abstract:Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age. Polycystic ovary syndrome presents with a wide range of symptoms, such as excessive body weight, infertility, excessive hair growth, high blood pressure, irregular menstrual cycles, hair loss (alopecia), and many other symptoms. Due to its symptomatology, polycystic ovary syndrome is often diagnosed very late, usually only when difficulties with conceiving occur. The role of the nurse in caring for a patient with polycystic ovary syndrome is essential for ensuring high-quality care for women with this condition. During the treatment and management of the syndrome, patients require different levels of support, including assistance with physical activities. The purpose of the research was to investigate the role of the nurse in caring for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and to identify the most common nursing care activities encountered by nurses at the primary and secondary levels of healthcare. In this qualitative research, a descriptive research method was used. The data were obtained through interviews with five nurses selected using purposive sampling. Ethical research principles were observed at all stages of the study. All data were thematically analysed and sent to the interviewees for review. The participating nurses had at least one year of work experience and regularly encountered patients with polycystic ovary syndrome in their practice. We found that the interviewees had very similar roles and experiences in caring for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. The interviewees frequently inform their patients about polycystic ovary syndrome, perform various measurements, record the frequency of menstruation, monitor the administration of hormonal therapy, and provide advice on a healthy lifestyle and its importance in managing the syndrome itself. The interviewees provided appropriate responses. The thesis offers an interesting insight into the role of nurses in caring for patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and the experiences shared by the interviewees. Appropriate identification of the role of nurses in the care of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome can contribute to the development of suitable guidelines for improving the management of these patients. Based on the responses of the interviewees, it is possible to provide information on opportunities for improving patient care.
