Abstract:The present paper aims to show an overall view of the quality of life in Slovenian regions in 2007, when The European Quality of Life Survey was carried out for the second time. The survey was based on interviews among 35,000 people in 27 European countries, including Slovenia. The paper deals with characteristics of and differences in the quality of life among the Slovenian regions according to the survey model, examining a range of issues. These do not only include money, wish fulfilment, paid employment, cooked dinners, seaside holidays, good health and competent government, but much more. We have analysed the data thoroughly: the theoretical part researches why the quality of life is important and how it can be empirically measured, while the empirical part offers a quantitative analysis of the data acquired from Economic and Social Data Service. The latter enabled our acquisition of the data stored at the UK Data Archive in Essex, since – unfortunately - our Social Studies Data Archive does not have them at its disposal. The main topic of interest were the major differences among the regions in the quality of life, based on seven indicators, which define the quality of life according to EQLS model: income, living standards and deprivation, subjective well-being, work-life balance, family life, housing and local environment, health and healthcare, and the quality of society. Being among the top European countries as far as the ratio between the number of inhabitants and the number of regions is concerned, Slovenia has provided insufficient data per region, which hinders analysis in many ways. The conclusion summarises the findings which have been supported with statistical tests and are therefore valid.
