Abstract:V diplomski nalogi smo obravnavali koncept dvojne diagnoze (oziroma komorbidnosti) in zdravljenje le-te v terapevtski skupnosti Sostro Pelikan. V empiričnem delu smo izvedli kvalitativno raziskavo, tj. polstrukturirane intervjuje z uporabniki terapevtske skupnosti, ki so bili v času raziskave vključeni v zdravljenje.

Abstract:In the thesis, we discuss the concept of dual diagnosis or, in other words, comorbidity, and its treatment at the therapeutic community Sostro Pelikan. Being diagnosed with comorbidity means that there is a concurrent presence of both a mental health disorder and substance abuse problem in the same person. The diagnosis itself is problematic, while the treatment is lengthy and has to be done in a comprehensive manner. Therapeutic community Sostro Pelikan employs an integrated approach which includes a concurrent treatment of addiction as well as all mental conditions. Empirical part of the thesis is based on a qualitative research, i. e. in-depth one-on-one interviews with all participants involved in the program at the time. We wanted to know how they are experiencing life with dual diagnosis, understand their journey that brought them to this point, learn about the progress of the treatment from the time they entered the program up to the present moment, and determine the significance of their families and their support in the course of the treatment. Eight individuals participated in the research, two females and six males, aging from 19 to 36 years. According to research, reasons for entering a treatment program can have an influence on its progress. Our study showed only two out of eight participants entered the program by their own volition, for three of them the main cause was an outside influence, albeit they were conscious of their need for treatment, and three entered only as a result of outside factors (parents, court orders). The treatment in TC Sostro was generally perceived in a positive manner, although a majority of participants found there was not enough adaptability in tailoring the program to individual’s needs. The importance of involving participants' families in the process has been stressed in many researches and it was also confirmed by our interviewees. They all acknowledged their family’s support as the main means of motivation; furthermore, they appreciate how members of their families work on self-improvement and personal growth throughout the treatment process.
