Title:The day centre “The young should not be raised by the street” as a bridge between teenagers and their parents : diploma thesis
Abstract:The thesis of this paper is based on the main objective of the day centre »The Young Should Not Be Raised by the Street« (The Centre) which is to help and support young people and their families to overcome challenges in their relationships. The paper tries to explain the importance of a family, in particular, from the point of view of the teenagers attending the Centre. It will try to present how one’s viewpoint on family matters is extremely important and how each member of a family contributes to its dynamic with their actions. Communication within a family is vital to improve personal relationships and represents a link between a parent and a teenager. The Centre helps young people develop communication and social skills (tolerance, respect, acceptance, resolving conflicts …), strengthen their social network and thus improve parents and peer relationships, and above all, it helps them with self-awareness and self-acceptance. The research paper presents the teenagers’ view of the Centre and the services provided. It emphasises the family dynamic from a teenage perspective and explains the provided support to all the parties involved. The results show that teenagers see the Centre as a place where they can develop their personality and learn valuable social skills needed in life and not only get learning support and tutorials. All teenagers attending the Centre need support, guidance, counselling, and empowerment; only in this way they can help themselves and their family members. The Centre, therefore, presents an important link between teenagers and their parents and is a bridge between the two generations.
