Title:Intercultural communication: case study of cross-border cooperation on the area of municipalities of Nova Gorica and Gorica
Abstract:In the master's thesis we discussed the cultural and linguistic differences between Slovenes and Italians and the historical factors that most influence the cross-border cooperation between them. We focused on the area of the Municipality of Nova Gorica and Gorica. The cross-border cooperation in this area is highly developed in the political, institutional and economic fields, so the need to understand the factors influencing the relationships of the members from different cultures is even greater. Once a joint area is now divided between two countries, Italy and Slovenia. Both nations have, however, alwayse coexisted here and relations between them have changed throughout history. In order to understand the current situation, it is necessary to look at the historical development of events. We used a qualitative method in the research. By analyzing the existing scientific literature, we identified cultural and linguistic differences that can influence the interaction in the processes of cross-border cooperation on the basis of intercultural an linguistic models of four selected scientists. With the data obtained in the focus group, we determined how these differences affect cross-border cooperation in regards to the implemation of joint projects in practice. The aim of the master's thesis was to identify significant cultural and linguistic differences between Slovenes and Italians, which define the dynamics of cross-border cooperation and can negatively affect the communication between them. We have developed a training model that will be able to serve training providers to prepare a programme for employees in the field of cross-border management. The purpose of the training is to present the identified differences using practicle examples, so that the participants can, understand, be aware of them and take them into account in mutual cross-border communication. The target group of the training is mainly those, who work with members of the another culture in the cross-border area in question on a daily basis.
